Dental Marketing with Mailing Lists

Posted on August 26, 2010 in Dental Marketing

after-closeDental offices all over the country, if not the world, are feeling the crunch of the current economic climate. The truth is that though there are dental emergencies, these typically aren’t what pay the bills.  Dentistry is widely underinsured and in a country like the US that already struggles with millions of uninsured citizens, dental work is often out of reach. Even for those who have dental insurance when things get hard at home practices like bi-yearly cleanings and teeth whitening usually take a backseat to more important bills. High end procedures tend to be what really pay the bills at most dental practices, which is probably why over 70% of all dentists claim that they are really feeling the crunch.

The Mailing List

One marketing practice that a lot of dentists have successfully tried in order to gain more patients is the mailing list procedure.  Dentists can purchase a list of addresses and have fliers, coupons, or postcards sent the individuals advertising their business.  What is so great about mailing lists is that you can pick what sort of demographic you want to target.  This allows pediatric dentists to specifically target homes where they are families.  It also allows you to target homes where one or both members have high-end jobs.  This can lead to more high-end, elective procedures.

Tips for Mailing Lists

As a dental practitioner there are many things you can do to help ensure the success of your mailing list marketing procedure.  For one thing, you can make sure that your current patients do not receive the advertisement, since you would not want to present them with an offer designed to drive in new patients.

Another tip for making this type of dental marketing a success is to pair whatever sort of advertisement you send out with a special offer. Offer a free teeth whitening procedure for new patients or a free cleaning.  You can even make it a discount, 10% or 20% off of first visit is sometimes a good way to go. Be creative and make sure that it is something within your budget to offer, do not go overboard.

Targeted mailing lists are generally a great way to get new patients into your dental practice.  For most dentists, keeping old patients isn’t nearly the problem that getting new ones is.  This is a great way to promote your dental business effectively and also a great way to ensure that you get a boost of new life and new revenue within your office.
