Dental Practice Management:
How to Transform Your Dental Business from Overwhelm to Fulfillment
Do you often feel frazzled and overwhelmed when you walk into your dental office, even though it's the first thing in the morning? Have you ever forgotten a patient's name in the middle of treatment or had a hard time concentrating on the procedure you were performing? While you're in your dentist office, do you ever feel tremendously anxious, your thoughts racing, your moods constantly swinging?
I know, because I've been there.
Do you dream of the days you'll be able to work a "normal" schedule, with more time to spend at home – more time with your family and friends, doing the things you love to do? I know what you're thinking… how could you possibly spend more time at home when you're spending at least 10 hours a day at your dental office? Right now, you have to be at your office; how could it possibly run without you?
And besides, when you finally do stumble home at the end of the day, you're so exhausted you're practically worthless. You really don't have the energy to play with your kids, or spend quality time with your spouse. All you want to do is curl up in a dark corner and hope tomorrow doesn't come too soon.
I know, because I've been there.
I bet your dental business is draining every ounce of energy out of you so that you have nothing left by the end of the day. You're probably feeling a little lonely, kind of isolated, maybe even slightly depressed? Chances are, on more than one occasion, you've questioned your decision to become a dentist, or even thought about closing your dental business altogether.
I know, because I've been there.
You probably don't realize it, but you're suffering from burnout. The truth is, over 80% of dentists in the Western world wake up in the morning not feeling motivated to begin their dental work.
And, if you're anything like I was, you might be thinking it's time to leave the dental profession entirely.
But Wait!
Before you make any drastic decisions, let me reassure you that deep down inside, you actually love being a dentist. What you don't like is all the overwhelm and uncertainty and stress that come from running a dental business. Even though it sounds contradictory, right now I know you're feeling agitated and paralyzed all at the same time. Believe it or not, what you're going through is actually quite normal.
And I know, because I've been there.
Banish Burnout: From Dental Drudgery to a Passionate Practice
My name is Dr. Madlena Kantscheff and I've owned my own dental business for over 20 years. Now, I wish I could tell you that I've always been a phenomenal success, but in all honesty, I've struggled with the same issues you're struggling with right now:
- I never had enough time for my family, and the time that I did spend with them wasn't very meaningful.
- I struggled with guilt when I wasn't at home – and I struggled with guilt when I wasn't at my dental office. It was a no-win situation.
- I was constantly worried. I was irritable. I had trouble sleeping, even tough I was always tired. I was becoming the person others didn't really want to be around.
- And besides the relentless feeling of overwhelm, I was starting to have other physical symptoms as well: loss of appetite, overall aches and pains, getting sick easily, loss of energy. It was getting to the point where everyday was a bad day.
I seriously considered quitting the dental profession completely. After all, I was convinced my life was never going to get any better and I'd be held captive by my dental business forever.
It wasn't easy, but I eventually overcame my challenges with stress and burnout, and I now live a life of passion, purpose and joy. And I'm extremely proud to say that I have created an astonishingly successful dental business.
Like I said, it wasn't easy, and it certainly didn't happen overnight. There was a steep learning curve, and the situations that I went through… well, let's just say I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.
